"The Loved One" is a song by a band called The Loved Ones. It is from 1966. INXS started covering the song in the early '80s and then included it on their album Kick. Beck and his fourth Record Club covered Kick.
The INXS cover is a spazzy electric guitar song, a sort of dramatic pop rock thing. Beck pared it down, playing it on acoustic guitar, adding acoustic slide, and singing it through clenched teeth.
None of the other musicians in the Record Club perform on it, it's all BECK! (As someone wrote about it on beck.com, "This one was recorded at the end of the night as everyone from record club trailed out to get some sleep. Realizing there was one more song left to complete the album track listing, Beck ended up doing this one on his own.")
