Lyrics:
Dancin' In Circles [Version (a)]:

Tap down those boots while I beat around
Let’s funk downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Funk me downtown

I lay around, touch myself to pass the time
I feel down, I wish you were mine
I close my eyes, take a breath and I picture us
In a place I can’t recognize
In the fire I call your name out
Up all night trying to rub the pain out

Singing baby don’t cry
Baby don’t cry
Dancing in circles
Feels good to be lonely
Baby don’t cry
Baby don’t cry
I’m singing, dancing in circles
Feels good to be lonely

Tap down those boots while I beat around
Let’s funk downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Funk me downtown

I fool myself, swirl around as if I’m someone else
Your hands are mine
I do a trick, pretend that I am you
Until it clicks - I come alive, come alive
In the fire I call your name out
Up all night trying to rub the pain out

I'm singing baby don’t cry
Baby don’t cry
Dancing in circles
Feels good to be lonely
Baby don’t cry
Baby don’t cry
I’m singing, dancing in circles
Feels good to be lonely

Tap down those boots while I beat around
Let’s funk downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Funk me downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Let’s funk downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Funk me downtown

Hurts inside, but not this time
All the things that are on my mind
Vanish as I touch myself
Call out loud for you

Oh can you hear me singing
Baby don’t cry
Baby don’t cry
Dancing in circles
Feels good to be lonely
Baby don’t cry
Baby don’t cry
I’m singing, dancing in circles
Feels good to be lonely

Tap down those boots while I beat around
Let’s funk downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Funk me downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Let’s funk downtown
Tap down those boots while I beat around
Funk me downtown

The Song:

Beck co-wrote "Dancin' In Circles" with Lady Gaga, and it was released on her 2016 album, Joanne.

Lady Gaga has been very vocal about her Beck fandom. After Beck's big Grammys win for Morning Phase, she mentioned numerous times how much she loved his music, and even told a story about going to see him at Bonnaroo before she was famous (in 2006). Once she even Snapchatted a picture of her kissing a framed picture of Beck on a studio's wall.

Anyway, Beck was at a fashion show and Lady Gaga and her new album's producer Mark Ronson were there. This seems to have led them getting together. Gaga explained they were hanging out and just "shooting the breeze" in Malibu, and she asked him what he was doing for the rest of the night. She invited him to jam, and it led to a "great dance song."

A year or so later, Beck said about his work with her: "I just came in and threw a bunch of ideas together. The thing we did felt like late 60s Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Nicks. Acoustic and a bit gritty." He then reminisced - "we had a whole day singing, drinking and smoking, then she made this huge Italian feast. All the while she is in ten-inch heels! I don't know if I've met anyone quite like her."

That all said, it is not particularly clear what ideas Beck threw that stuck in "Dancin' In Circles." None of it feels very much Beck-like to me, and he's not a credited performer on the song (just a co-writer). It mostly comes off as a pale Prince-like ode, and Beck's quote above about it being "acoustic and gritty" seems an odd description for "Dancin'" (perhaps the acoustic, gritty song was a separate song?).
