The Song:

Back around the time of Midnite Vultures (or before?), Beck and Cornelius were reported to have recorded some music together. Nothing ever came of it, but Cornelius did do a remix of "Mixed Bizness."

But then in around 2004 or 2005, Cornelius was DJing on a radio show in his native Japan. One of the songs he spun was a Beck song called "Bloodless."

Not much is known about the song, but we did verify that the song was written by Beck, and mixed by Cornelius. They have no plan to release the song. The song has however leaked out thanks to someone who had that radio show. It's an edgy song, with a unique aggression to it.

There is an old Irish folk song called "Schooldays Over" which starts:

Schooldays over, come on then John, time to be gettin' your pit boots on
On with your sark and moleskin trousers, it's time you were on your way
Time you were learning the pitman's job and earning the pitman's pay

The song is about the young generation heading off to work. Beck's own take on it is similar:

The new breed is pausing for silence
The old guard is letting us down
The white walls, we're painting them whiter
For school days, they're over for now

School is done, and off to the mundane and pointless world of painting white walls white. Interestingly, Beck used the painting white walls image in "Send A Message To Her" as well (where it also implies a pointless day job situation).

More hopeless tasks are referenced, children "pushing and pulling," closing your eyes to do what you're supposed to. Is the younger generation losing their lifeblood by doing this?
